Gabriela Galván

Nació en la Ciudad de México. Sus piezas crean meditaciones formales sostenidas en los objetos encontrados y los objetos cotidianos, los cuales utiliza para activar relaciones entre la audiencia y los lugares. En la obra de Galván, los objetos son en última instancia, un catalizador para la transformación personal y social. Su trabajo incluye instalación, arte público, escultura, video, dibujo y performance. La obra de Gabriela ha sido exhibida en Zacheta National Gallery of Art (Polonia), Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía (España), Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien (Alemania) y en su natal México, en el Museo de la Ciudad de México (en colaboración con el Centro Georges Pompidou), Museo de Arte Moderno, Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros y el Museo Tamayo, entre otros. Vive y trabaja en Nueva York.

Gabriela Galván was born in Mexico City. Her pieces create sustained formal meditations on found and everyday objects, which are used to activate the relationship between audience and place. In Galvan’s work, objects are ultimately a catalyst for personal and social transformations.Her work spans different disciplines, including installation, sculpture, work on paper, video, design, drawing, and performance.She was exhibited internationally in venues such as Zacheta National Gallery (Poland), Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía (Spain), Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien (Germany) and in her native Mexico at Museo Tamayo, Museo de Arte Moderno, and Museo de la Ciudad de México (in collaboration with the Centre George Pompidou), among others. Recent public projects include Aquatic Random at Staten Island Ferry Terminal NY. She was artist in residence at OMI International Arts Center, NY and has received grants from La Coleccion Jumex, The International Studio & Curatorial Program of New York, and the Programa Jovenes Creadores from FONCA. In 2015, she will be in residence at Fundacion Casa Wabi in Mexico.Gabriela lives and works in New York.
